KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team continues in tournament play preparing for day two of the Division II CCA Tip Off Tournament. Billings, Montana will play host, as the #5 Tampa Spartans are the next squad slated to face the Javelinas.
The Javelinas (0-1, 0-0 LSC) are heading into Saturday's matchup after a 49-41 loss to the Gannon Golden Knights, where neither squad played to their potential offensively seeing the Javelinas shoot 24% from the field and Gannon 31.6%. The Blue and Gold will try to get in the win column as their tournament schedule does them no favors seeing some tough opponents, however with improvements sure to come, Senior
Georgia Ohiaeri, with her 11 point 7 rebound performance last time out is sure to lead the Javelinas in the right direction.
The Spartans come into the game fifth in the nation in division two (According to the WBCA Preseason Rankings Coaches Poll) ending the season last year in the number one spot for the south region.
Tampa (1-0, 0-0 SSC) comes into Saturday off of a 63-57 victory over the Minot State Beavers, where they shot 41.2% from the field. The Spartans, however, had some trouble holding on to the ball as they left the gym with 22 turnovers as opposed to the opposition's 15.
The Javelinas and Spartans have only met 1 time before Saturday, which was in 2016 when the Spartans visited the Steinke Physical Education Center. The Javelinas dropped that one 67-50 giving them an 0-1 record all time.
