Javelinas return to the SPEC hosting St. Edward's and St. Mary's

The Javelinas will face a pair of Eastern Division opponents for Pack The House Night and on Throwback Weekend

KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team will invite St. Edwards into the SPEC for Pack The House night on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., ahead of a Throwback contest with St. Mary's Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Javelinas (10-8, 7-5 LSC) enter the weekend on a three-game win streak after knocking off Western New Mexico and Eastern New Mexico last time out, first beating the Mustangs, 51-45, before topping the Greyhounds, 50-48 on a buzzer-beating layup courtesy of sophomore Mia Rivers.

Junior Georgia Ohiaeri paved the way offensively, scoring 14 points against WNMU before adding five more in the matchup with ENMU. She collected eight rebounds over the weekend while sinking shots at a 54.5% clip.

Defensively, the Javelinas were superb, holding the Mustangs to 45 points and a 33.3% shooting clip on Thursday before keeping the Greyhounds to 48 points and a 29.5% field goal percentage. Freshman Alyssa O' Malley made an impact, swiping four steals and a block in the pair of victories.

The Javs previously met each squad, narrowly falling on New Year's Day to SEU, 67-65, in Austin, Texas, after besting StMU 60-53 on Dec. 31 at Bill Greehey Arena.

TAMUK enters the contest sitting sixth in the Lone Star Conference, while the Hilltoppers (10-10, 6-6 LSC) maintain seventh. They split last weekend, besting UTPB before falling to a nationally-ranked Angelo State squad.

SEU has three athletes boasting double-digit scoring figures, in the form of Morgan Gary, who leads the way with 11.3 PPG, while Jayda Rufus-Miller averages 10.2 PPG and Lauren Catherman 10.0 PPG. Gary also serves as the team leader in rebounds, while Sammy Dufek enters ranked second nationally in blocks with 48.

The Rattlers (6-12, 2-10 LSC) are looking to snap a three-game skid, last claiming victory on Jan. 12 against UAFS. Gabby Elliot leads the team in both points and boards with 12.1 PPG and 6.8 RPG. Defensively, Teanna Huggins anchors the team with 35 steals and 11 blocks.
