Javelinas hosting Adams State in midweek clash

Admission will be free for all those wishing to attend

KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team is set to take on Adams State on Wednesday, with tipoff scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Steinke Physical Education Center. Admission will be free at the SPEC, and the Javelinas will have a Black Friday Sale on Wednesday, where you can purchase men's and women's basketball season tickets for $30.

The Javelinas (2-1, 0-0 LSC) dropped an overtime matchup with Western Colorado last week and look to get back to their winning ways against the Grizzlies (4-0, 0-0 RMAC). ASU was also busy hosting the Anytime Fitness Classic, where they picked up wins against Embry-Riddle Aeronautical and Northern New Mexico.

The Grizzlies are the nation's best shooting team thus far, as they hit shots at a 54.7% clip and are also the top-scoring squad in the NCAA, averaging 95.2 PPG. Harmine Dominguez and Sharmayne Finley have provided the bulk of the ASU offense, with Dominguez shooting 54.2% from beyond the arc and sinking 3.25 per game, while Finely averages 17 PPG and hits 57.7% of the shots she takes.

Meanwhile, TAMUK has continued to excel at the three-point line, with sophomore Janessa Payne and freshman Shelby Ray each averaging at least two per game. Senior Brianna Pena also leads the country in assists/turnover ratio as the Weslaco native has dished out nine dimes, with just one turnover. Pena also carries momentum from the matchup with WCU, where she scored 10 points and picked up six rebounds, two assists, and a steal.

Defensively, Georgia Ohiaeri has performed well for the squad and is coming off a matchup where she picked up five rebounds while helping hold the Mountaineers to 33.9% shooting. On the year, she leads the Javelinas in boards, picking up 5.3 RPG and in steals with seven.
