KINGSVILLE, Texas – For the first time since the 2000-01 season, the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team is 6-0 in conference play after defeating Oklahoma Christian 77-44 on Saturday afternoon in Lone Star Conference action at the Steinke Physical Education Center in Kingsville, Texas.

The Javelinas (13-4, 6-0 LSC) bested the Eagles (0-12, 0-4 LSC) to match the 2000-01 team's LSC start that culminated in a 27-7 record and an NCAA South Central Regional Championship. Additionally, this is TAMUK's first 9-0 start at home since 2009-10, and the programs first win by over 30 points since an 85-55 victory over Texas A&M International from 2016.

The Javs recorded 25 assists on 27 made baskets to earn the win, with freshmanÂ
Mia Rivers (College Station, Texas) and sophomoreÂ
Kryslyn Jones (Edmond, Okla.) mirroring each other's totals, each with six assists and five rebounds. Jones also provided a boost defensively, snatching five steals to match her season-high.

TAMUK shot the lights out of the gym, making 44.6% of their shots from the floor, with three Javelinas recording double-digit scoring days as juniorÂ
Brianna Pena (Weslaco, Texas) led the team with 14 points, 12 of which came from beyond the arc. FreshmanÂ
Janessa Payne (Aledo, Texas) came off the bench and buried four three-pointers while snagging five rebounds and logging five assists. Rounding out the trio seniorÂ
Anastacia Mickens (Beaumont, Texas) scored 10 at a 71.4% clip.

OC grabbed a 5-2 lead early in the first quarter before TAMUK quickly snatched it back, ending the frame on a 14-3 scoring run featuring a pair of triples from Payne and freshmanÂ

Dominguez drained another three to open up the second, kickstarting a 12-5 run that included four three-pointers and gave the Javs a 28-13 edge with 5:42 remaining in the quarter. The Eagles and Javelinas traded baskets to close out the half with the score 35-22 in favor of TAMUK.Â

OC drained the first bucket of the third before a 10-0 Javelina run resulted in a 21-point Blue and Gold lead that carried over to the start of the fourth quarter.Â

TAMUK finished strong, outscoring the Eagles 19-7 in the final frame with five triples to secure the 33 point victory.Â
