ODESSA, Texas – The Texas A&M University-Kingsville baseball program needed only seven innings on Sunday at Roden Field to complete the four-game sweep over UT Permian Basin behind a 13-1 decision.
The Javelinas (12-2, 4-0 LSC) connected for 13 hits on the day and used a six-run seventh inning to take the win over the Falcons (2-14, 0-4 LSC).
A well-balanced approach at the plate proved too much for the hosts as the Hogs got at least one hit from 10 separate batters.
Kohl Ullman,
Christian Caudle and
Pablo Hernandez led the way on the offensive end as each finished with a pair of hits.
TAMUK got the runs flowing in the third inning after
Manny Loredo reached on an error that scored Ullman, while Caudle roped a pitch down the right field line and ended at third to score Loredo before crossing the plate himself on a wild pitch.
The Javelinas added four more runs in the fifth after
Austin Ingraham pushed a squeeze past the pitcher to score Caudle before
Dylan Hutcheson laced an RBI single past the second baseman that plated
Dallas Stefano.
Alex Gonzalez sent a two-run liner into center to set the line score at 7-0 heading into the bottom half of the stanza after Hutcheson and
Levi Zents came home.
An RBI double from Alex Wixson in the sixth became the only tally on the board for UTPB as the Falcons failed to score on
Kyle Craft (2-0) before he got the hook following the fifth inning. Craft struck out two and scattered four hits across five innings of work for his second win of the season.
TAMUK poured on the final six runs of the contest in what would be the final inning as Ullman started the rally with an RBI liner into left to cap Hutcheson.
Brad Jones sent a two-run double to right to bring in Ullman and
Dax McCleary, while
Giancarlo Servin found space in left to plate
Will Arnold.
Hutcheson ended up with his second RBI of the day after getting plunked by a pitch, scoring Jones, while
Tim Gleinser took a free pass with the bases loaded that allowed
Donovan Lewis to cross the plate and set the line score at 13-1.
Joshua Valdez pitched a perfect seventh and retired a pair of Falcons on strikes to provide the exclamation point on the sweep.
The Javelinas will return to Nolan Ryan Field this coming weekend for a four-game Lone Star series against West Texas A&M starting on March 9, to continue the 2018 campaign.
