No. 19 Hogs Take Three of Four from No. 5 Buffs

Javelinas connect for 16 hits on Sunday to clinch series with 12-4 win

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The No. 19 Texas A&M University-Kingsville baseball program showcased an offensive display on Sunday at Nolan Ryan Field to take the final game of the non-conference series against No. 5 West Texas A&M at 12-4.

The Javelinas (15-3) tallied their 12 runs on 16 hits, along with five solid innings of work from senior Kyle Craft (3-0) to secure the 3-1 series win over the Buffs (16-5).

Craft scattered three hits over the duration of his outing, along with a pair of strikeouts, to secure his third win of the season. The Victoria, Texas, native worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the top of the fifth with only one run surrendered to complete his performance on the mound.

The Hogs pushed runners across starting in the second inning after redshirt-sophomore Kohl Ullman was plunked by a pitch with the bases loaded to score the first run of the game.

Senior Austin Ingraham capped two more runs for the Blue and Gold in the stanza with his two-run single that snuck through the left side to bring in redshirt-junior Alex Gonzalez and senior Dallas Stefano for a 3-0 TAMUK lead going into the third.

Junior Manny Loredo plated another run in the third with a ground ball to second that brought in senior Christian Caudle, while Ingraham, Caudle and senior Levi Zents added three more in the following inning for a comfortable 7-0 Javelina lead.

Ingraham sent a sacrifice fly to bring in sophomore Brad Jones, before Caudle capped Gonzalez on a liner into center and Zents tallied an infield single to third that scored Ullman.

The Buffs chipped away at the lead with a run in the top of the fifth on a bases-loaded walk from Justice Nakagawa before Craft sat the final two batters down to end the threat.

West Texas A&M would add another run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to close within five runs, but the effort was ultimately in vain as the Hogs continued to pile on through the remainder of the contest.

Ullman pushed a pitch into right in the fifth to plate junior Dylan Hutcheson, while another ground ball from Loredo in the sixth scored Caudle to set the Javelinas' run total at nine.

After the Buffs closed within five, Stefano bounced a pitch back up the middle to bring in Loredo and Zents in the eighth, while Ullman's ground ball to second capped Stefano later in the frame to wrap the scoring for both sides at 12-4.

The Hogs will have a midweek trip on Wednesday, March 14, to Victoria, Texas, to take on NAIA foe the University of Houston-Victoria with the first pitch of the one-game affair set for 6 p.m. CT. TAMUK will remain on the road later that same week for a four-game, non-conference series against Cameron University starting on Friday, March 16.
