Squeeze Play Leads to Pivotal Series Split

Javelinas remain in first place in the LSC standings

KINGSVILLE, Texas (Baseball) – No. 21/26 Texas A&M University-Kingsville (31-12, 16-4 LSC) used small ball to split the series with #RV/25 West Texas A&M University (31-13, 12-6 LSC) with a 3-2 victory Sunday afternoon at Nolan Ryan Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
West Texas A&M scored a run in the first inning and that was all it could get off right-hander Zach Wilson until the seventh, who settled down to go 6.2 innings with six strikeouts. In the bottom of frame, Kohl Ullman led off with a single and scored on Pablo Hernandez's single through the left side knotted it up at 1-1. With the base knock, Hernandez reached base safely in 26 consecutive games.

TAMUK went up 2-1 on a bases loaded walk and that remained the score until the seventh, when WT tied the ballgame at 2-2.

A squeeze play in the bottom of the eighth sealed the victory as Alec Kana's bunt brought home Alex Gonzalez.

Dax McCleary reached base safely in all four plate appearances with a double and three walks.

WIN-LOSS RECORD
Senior Zach Wilson allowed two runs and struck out six in 6.2 innings. Fellow senior Hunter Lehman, last night's walk-off hero, capped off a wonderful weekend with 2.1 scoreless innings in relief to improve to 2-0.

Buffs right-hander Noah Draper picked up the no-decision with five strikeouts in 7.0 innings. Thomas Garland (0-1) was charged with the loss after allowing the game-winning run in the eighth.

WHAT'S NEXT
Texas A&M-Kingsville concludes the regular season with a four-game set at Cameron University next week.
