KINGSVILLE, Texas – Ope Ibrahim had her second consecutive game in double-figures, piling up 10 points, but the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team fell, 62-46, to the Angelo State Rams on Tuesday night at the Steinke Physical Education Center in Kingsville, Texas.
Ibrahim was one of 11 different Javelina players to find the scoresheet on the night. Emmeri Archer also contributed nine points. The Javs received 24 points from their bench, seven more than Angelo's contributed.
FIRST QUARTER
The Javelinas began the game by embarking on a 7-0 run that was capped by a three from Victoria Salinas. Angelo answered with five points, including a triple by Madi Greenwood. After the teams traded hoops to make the score 13-11, Dearria Watson tied things up with a jumper and Keanna Kelly gave ASU the lead with a fast-break layup after a steal by Greenwood.
SECOND QUARTER
A layup by Kynese Davis and two foul shots by De'Anira Moore pushed ASU in front by six before Ibrahim tossed one in for a pair and Jaiton Walls knocked down a jumper. Mikayla Blount hit her first trey of the night for the Rams, only for Debose to respond with a layup.
The teams traded buckets again, but the Rams went up by five thanks to two free throws from Moore. A foul shot by Debose brought the Javs to within four, but Greenwood then swished her second trey of the night and the Rams took that seven-point edge into the locker room.
THIRD QUARTER
The Rams began the second half by immediately building on their lead. They put together an 11-2 run that included buckets by Dezirae Hampton, who would finish with a game-high 12 points, and Kelly, as well as another triple by Greenwood and extended the Ram lead to 19 points.
The response by the home team was 9-0 rally to close within 10. Archer began the run with three and Ibrahim and Kristina Kana followed with buckets of their own. The Rams refused to allow their hosts to get any closer however, and a three by Blount in the closing seconds of the period made the score 46-33.
FOURTH QUARTER
A 15-7 run to begin the fourth reestablished control of the game in ASU's favor. After Aaliyah Warren contributed a layup, Blount canned another three. TAMUK fought back with free throws by Antionette Shrepee and Ope Ibrahim and a layup by Emmeri Archer, but Hampton knocked down a jumper and a three to put ASU ahead by 18. That lead soon grew to 21 thanks to a Keanna Kelly three, the ninth and last of the night by the Rams. All nine players who saw the floor for Angelo State scored. Six of the game's last seven points were scored by the Hoggies, with a layup by Ibrahim closing out the scoring.
