GAMES 11-12: New Year Begins with Home Games versus Lions, TexAnns

Javelinas are 2-2 in LSC play

KINGSVILLE, Texas (Women's Basketball) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (7-3, 2-2 LSC) welcomes Texas A&M University-Commerce (8-3, 3-1 LSC) and Tarleton State University (4-6, 3-1 LSC) to the Gil E. Steinke Physical Education Center-Kingsville Hampton Inn Court to begin 2017. The Javelinas resume Lone Star Conference play versus the Lions Jan. 5 at 5:15 p.m. and follow with a bout against the TexAnns Saturday at 4 p.m.

A WIN WOULD…
  • Snap a four game losing skid to A&M-Commerce and 13 game losing streak to Tarleton State
  • Mark the first time A&M-Kingsville is over .500 in LSC play since 2009-10
  • Snap a five game losing streak to Cameron and a four game losing streak to Midwestern State.
 
TIP OFF
Kaylin Roher leads the Javelinas with 11.6 points per game and 2.3 steals per contest. The senior is shooting 41.0 percent from three-point range and ranks first in the conference in assist to turnover ratio (3.3 assists), second in three-point field goal percentage and third in steals. Kaylee Kana is third in rebounding with 8.1 boards per game to go with her 7.1 points per game. Tee Moore is averaging 7.6 points and Jaiton Walls adds 7.2 points per game.
The starting lineup of Roher, Moore, Meesha Wade (6.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists), Kana and Walls is 7-3 this season.
 
Defensively, the Hogs rank second in the conference in scoring defense, limiting opponents to 58.3 points per game while shooting 36.1 percent.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES BREAKDOWN
Against the Lions, the Javelinas trail the all-time series 33-30 and TSU holds the edge versus A&M-Kingsville 25-18.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Shaq Debose came off the bench with 17 points in an exhibition at the University of the Incarnate Word (2-9) Dec. 28.
 
The Javelinas took the lead in the third following a dominating period in which they outscored the Cardinals 23-13. The 17 points by Debose is a new season-high for the Alcorn State University transfer. Moore also reached double figures with 11 points and Kana finished with nine points and eight rebounds.
 
NEXT UP
Following the weekend battle with the TexAnns, the Javelinas hit the road to take on the University of Texas of the Permian Basin and West Texas A&M University.
