Late 8-0 Run Puts Kingsville in Front but Rambelles Escape with Victory

Javelinas head to Denton to take on Texas Woman’s Thursday

KINGSVILLE, Texas (Women's Basketball) – It was the Kaylee Kana show in the fourth period as the senior scored eight consecutive points to give the Javelinas a 61-57 lead with 4:07 remaining in regulation. Unfortunately, the momentum shifted towards the Rambelles as No. 15/t-23 Angelo State University (15-2, 9-2 LSC) defeated Texas A&M University-Kingsville (9-8, 4-7 LSC), 70-63, Tuesday evening in the Gil E. Steinke Physical Education Center-Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.
 
Kana registered her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and added two steals. Shaq Debose came off the bench with 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting and dished out three dimes, while Tee Moore and Meesha Wade scored 11 points apiece.
 
FIRST PERIOD
Both teams struggled offensively from the tip with the Rambelles holding an 11-9 edge after the opening period.
 
SECOND PERIOD
It was a turn of events in the second period as the Javelinas were 9-of-15 from the field to take a 32-29 lead into the half. The Javelinas scored 13 points off turnovers and Tee Moore led the Hogs with nine points on 4-of-7 shooting. Meesha Wade added eight points and Ope Ibrahim came off the bench with five rebounds. The Angelo State bench scored 21 points, all by Chenelle Pelle (11) and Madi Greenwood (10).
 
THIRD PERIOD
The Hogs shot 50.0 percent in the third period to hold onto their lead 48-44 behind a balanced effort. Wade had 10 points and three assists through three and Moore led A&M-Kingsville with 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting.
 
FOURTH PERIOD
The Rambelles regained the lead for the first time in the second half and went up 56-51 with 6:22 remaining in regulation but moments later and trailing 57-53, Kana caught fire, scoring the game's next eight points including back-to-back corner treys to put Kingsville in front 61-57 with 4:07 left to play.
 
Down 62-61 with 2:16 remaining, Wade tied the game after connecting on one of two free throws. Angelo State iced the game in the closing minutes to earn the regular season series sweep.
 
NEXT UP
Women's basketball heads to the Kitty Magee Arena to battle Texas Woman's University (12-6, 5-5 LSC) Thursday at 7 p.m.
