KINGSVILLE, Texas (Softball) – Haley Boyett extended her reached base safely streak to 15 games with two base hits in game one and a walk in game two but Texas A&M University-Kingsville (18-29) fell to No. 10 St. Mary' University (37-9), 10-2, and 8-0, Tuesday afternoon at Vernie and Blanche Hubert Field.
Boyett concluded the opening game 2-for-3 with a run scored and
Rachael Longoria double in the game.
Game OneBoyett went 2-for-3 to extend her reached base safely streak to 14 games but St. Mary's took game one 10-2 behind three home runs.
Roxy Chapa (1-for-2),
Alexei Gonzalez (1-for-3), and Longoria (1-for-3) each had one hit.
Carlie Clark (8-10) was charged with the loss and Jorden Russell (16-3) tossed her eighth complete game of the season in the victory.
The Rattlers plated two in the leadoff inning and added a run in the second. A five-run fourth gave StMU an 8-0 lead.
Longoria led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a double and came around to score on Gonzalez's single. St. Mary's responded with two runs in the fifth and the Javelinas added a run in the bottom frame but the Hogs fell in the opener, 10-2.
Game TwoKarri Smith tossed her eighth complete game of the season, becoming the school's all-time leader in games finished with 29. Chapa had a hit in game two of Tuesday's doubleheader, while Boyett's walk extended her reached base streak to 15 games in the 8-0 loss.
Both teams started game two of Tuesday's doubleheader in a pitcher's duel until the Rattlers plated three runs in the third and fourth innings for a 6-0 lead. StMU plated two more runners in the fifth inning to escape Kingsville with an 8-0 victory.
Texas A&M-Kingsville will host Tarleton State University April 15-16 for their final home four-game series of the season. Friday's doubleheader will be at 5 and 7 p.m. and Saturday's doubleheader is slated for 2 and 4 p.m.
