VICTORIA, Texas (Baseball) – Christian Caudle and
David Massey finished with three RBI apiece and
Pablo Hernandez put an exclamation point on a six-run ninth with a pinch hit, two-run home run as #RV Texas A&M University-Kingsville (1-3) earned its first win of the season, 13-2, over the University of Houston-Victoria (1-4) Tuesday evening at Riverside Stadium.
Donning gray uniforms, the Javelinas put on an offensive clinic, tallying 11 hits and the bullpen combined to strike out nine in 5.1 innings of scoreless work.
Jako Kelm (1-1) earned his first win as a Javelina with four strikeouts in 3.1 innings out of the 'pen, followed by scoreless innings from the arms of
Trey Taylor and
Hunter Lehman.
Caudle went 1-for-5 with a two-run single in the ninth, Massey finished 2-for-3 and
Jimmy Roche and
Brayton Carlson scored three runs apiece. Carlson reached base safely in all five plate appearances, walking three times and swiping two bags, while Roche went 2-for-5 from the sixth spot in the Javelina batting order.
Texas A&M-Kingsville struck first, scoring a run in the second, but the Jaguars matched the Hogs run in the second and third to tie the game at 2-2. The Javelinas added a run in the fourth and the sixth to take a two-run lead with a three-run seventh opening the game up for the Hogs behind two hits and a patient lineup that recorded two walks. The ninth was the dagger as TAMUK was able to dominate its way in a homecoming of sorts for
Hayden Vesely and head coach
Jason Gonzales, who are either from Victoria or a surrounding area.
