KINGSVILLE, Texas (Baseball) – Hayden Vesely began his senior season with a bang – literally – as the third baseman went yard in his second at-bat and
Sebi Palacios struck out 10 Eagles in his Javelinas debut in #RV Texas A&M University-Kingsville's 4-3 loss to Oklahoma Christian University (1-0) Friday evening at Nolan Ryan Field.
Vesley finished 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI and Palacios went 6.0 innings, allowing just two hits in the opener. Heading into the ninth, the Javelinas led 3-1 but a three-run top of the inning by the Eagles gave OC the first of three games.
Trey Taylor threw a scoreless seventh and
Jimmy Roche went 2-for-3 from the nine-spot in the order.
Vesely reached base safely on his first plate appearance of the season and came around to score on a double by
Ruben Almaguer to give the Javelinas a 1-0 lead in the first.
A balk tied the contest at 1-1 in the third but the Hogs answered in the bottom half with a two-run shot off the bat of Vesely, regaining a lead, 3-1.
Jared Sterling went 6.0 innings for Oklahoma Christian and struck out nine. Jake Collins (1-0) earned the win with 2.2 scoreless innings in relief and Dylon Sturges picked up the save, his first of the season.
Hunter Lehman (0-1) was tagged with the loss despite punching out three in 2.0 innings.
The series concludes tomorrow with a double dip, beginning at 1 p.m. Live stats will be available and can be accessed by visiting JavelinaAthletics.com, the official home of Texas A&M-Kingsville.
