SAN ANGELO, Texas (Women's Basketball) – Kaylee Kana owned the boards Tuesday night in Texas A&M University-Kingsville's (3-2, 0-1 LSC) 84-59 loss to No. 8/6 Angelo State University (4-0, 1-0 LSC) in Stephens Arena to open conference play.
Kana pulled down a game high of 16 boards including 11 on the defensive glass and matched Lily Hospers with two steals who finished with seven points. Shaq Debose led the team in scoring with ten points shooting 6-of-8 from the charity stripe, followed by Kaylin Roher's eight points and team high of four assists. Tee Moore, Jaiton Walls, Essence Sauls and Angelica Wilson all finished with six points.

First Period
The Hogs defense showed up early to help gain a 6-2 lead and held ASU scoreless for 3:52 towards the end of the quarter. The Javs concluded the opening period with a 15-12 lead behind five points from Roher and five Angelo turnovers.
Second Period
Roher was feeling it and struck from beyond the arc early in the quarter but soon picked up her second foul to send her to the bench. From that point, the Rambelles went on a 7-0 run and took a 25-20 lead to force a Javelina timeout. Angelo State outscored A&M-Kingsville 32-13 in the second quarter and entered halftime with a 44-28 lead.Â
Third Period
The third quarter was dominated by Taylor Dorsey who led all scorers with 11 points- all in the paint. The Javelinas scored 11points total on 4-of-17 shooting and concluded the quarter down 68-39.Â
Fourth Period
TAMUK scored a team high of 20 points in a single period and held ASU to 16 points, but unfortunately fell 84-59 in their conference opener. Despite outscoring the Belles 18-16 in fast break points overall and scoring 38 points from the bench, the determining factor was the Belles outscoring the Javs 28-18 off of turnovers and 42-34 in the paint.Â
