COMMERCE, Texas (Women's Basketball) – Kaylin Roher scored 13 points and
Jamesha Wade and
Kaylee Kana added 10 apiece in Texas A&M University-Kingsville's (5-6, 0-1 LSC), 85-61, setback at Texas A&M University-Commerce (7-5, 1-0 LSC) Wednesday evening in The Field House.
The size advantage was Commerce's in the victory as the Lions were able to outrebound the Javelinas by 20. Kana added eight rebounds to lead the Hogs and
Kyra Bauer came off the bench to provide nine points.
Through one, A&M-Commerce led 22-18 but Texas A&M-Kingsville outscored the Lions 15-13 in the second to head into the second half trailing by two. Bauer scored seven points on 3-of-6 shooting and Kana recorded four points and seven rebounds in the opening 20 minutes.
The Javelinas were unable to keep the momentum in the third period and Commerce defeated the Hogs 85-61 in the Lone Star Conference opener.
Five players reached double figures for the Lions, led by Amari Jones' 15 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks and three steals.
Texas A&M-Kingsville hosts Tarleton State University on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. on H-E-B Community Appreciation Day. Admission is free for all so do not miss your chance to see the Javelinas in action in 2016.
