STEPHENVILLE, Texas (Softball) –
Loren Donaldson went 2-for-2 at the plate with a double to pace Texas A&M-Kingsville (14-23-1, 5-15-1 LSC) Saturday at Tarleton State. The TexAnns won the series opener 17-2 in five innings at the Tarleton Softball Complex. Game two was suspended with one out in the bottom of the fourth and the Javleinas leading 4-2 because of inclement weather.
The second contest will resume tomorrow at 1 p.m. and be followed by the scheduled doubleheader.
Also recording a hit for the Blue and Gold was
Jaeleen Castro,
Rachael Longoria,
Ariana Munoz and
Valerie Ramirez.
Suffering the loss was
Carlie Clark (5-4) as she made her first appearance in just over two weeks because of an injury. She recorded two outs but gave up four runs on two hits and walks. Haley Freyman (17-10) picked up the win by going the distance while allowing two runs on six hits.
TSU's bats were on fire from the get go. They scored five runs in the first and equaled that total over the next two frames to take a 10-0 lead.
Longoria led the top of the fourth off by drawing a walk. Back-to-back singles from Ramirez and Donaldson load the bases for Munoz. She delivered on the first pitch of her at bat by singling to left field to plate two runs.
Any momentum the Javelinas had quickly vanished when the TexAnns answered back with seven runs in the bottom half of the frame.
Bella Rosas pitched the final 3.1 innings. She struck out one while surrendering 16 hits, 13 runs and two free passes.
Nyka Wood went 4-for-4 with five RBI and a home run to pace TSU. Melody Mayse plated three runs and both Katelyn Conlee and Erika Menchaca drove in two.
