SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team (6-7, 0-2 LSC) battled with No. 6 Angelo State (13-1, 2-0 LSC) but dropped both games of the doubleheader. Game one ended 4-2 while the Rambelles won by run-rule 8-0 in six innings.
Donaldson led the Javelinas with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate with a double. Ramirez recorded two base knocks in the twinbill as well.
Suffering the losses were
Karri Smith (3-3) and
Bella Rosas (1-3).
Game 1 The Rambelles struck first in the second on a RBI double with two outs.
Smith drew a walk with one out in the top of the fourth on four pitches.
Rachael Longoria followed with a single to left. Both runners were moved into scoring position when
Corrine Brassell grounded out third.
A dribbler was then hit towards third as well by
Ariana Munoz but the fielder misplayed it to allow the Javelinas to tie the game. ASU threw a wild pitch on the next offering that allowed Longoria to score and give TAMUK a 2-1 advantage.
The Rambelles loaded the bases in the bottom of the frame with one out. Smith struck out the next hitter but a ball hit by Micherie Koria was mishandled and allowed the home squad to tie the game. They took a 3-2 lead on a single that hit off of Smith's leg.
ASU added another run in the fifth while recording three straight base knocks with two outs. They tacked on another insurance run in the sixth for the final run of the game.
Loren Donaldson, Longoria, Munoz and Ramirez all recorded a hit for TAMUK.
Smith tossed her sixth complete game of the season while striking out four. She also surrendered five runs on 11 hits.
Game 2 ASU struck first again in the second game in the second frame. Kenedy Urbany belted the ball over the left field fence for a 1-0 advantage.
The Javelinas threatened in the next half inning when they got two runners in scoring position. However, Smith flew out to the center fielder and with a frozen rope nailed the runner tagging from third at the plate.
In the fourth, the Rambelles loaded the bases but were only able to score one run. On a base hit to left center,
Jaeleen Castro threw the ball into Ramirez, who gunned the runner from second out at the plate.
Two insurance runs for the Belles were added in the next frame off a two-run dinger. They tacked on four more in the sixth to end the game by run-rule.
Donalson paced the Blue and Gold at the plate with a 2-for-2 performance including a double. Lugo and Ramirez each had a base knock.
Rosas went four innings with five strikeouts while surrendering four runs on six hits. Smith pitched a perfect inning of relief.
