COMMERCE, Texas – Despite trailing by four at halftime, the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team (0-22, 0-12 LSC) struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the second half, resulting in a 74-57 setback to Texas A&M-Commerce (12-9, 6-5 LSC) Thursday night in the Field House.
After the Lions took an early 2-0 lead,
Lauren Jay hit a jumper nearly two minutes into the contest to tie the score. TAMUC responded with three straight points to go back ahead.
TAMUK took their lone lead of the game 24-23 at the 6:21 mark following a 4-0 run.
Ope Ibrahim started the spurt with two free throws and
Kyra Bauer nailed a jumper.
Four consecutive points were recorded by the Lions to put them in the lead for good. The Blue and Gold were able to pull to within one on a basket from Ibrahim with just under four minutes to go in the period.
The Javelinas missed their first six shots of the second half while making four free throws as TAMUC went on a 17-4 run. TAMUK made only five field goals in the last 20 minutes of the game with three coming in the final two minutes.
Jay scored a team-high 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Bauer added 10 points while
Micah Weaver contributed nine points.
The Blue and Gold return home on Saturday against Tarleton State at 6 p.m. The contest is the Blue and Gold's annual Play 4Kay game.
