KINGSVILLE, Texas (Women's Basketball) – The Javelinas were unable to dial in from long distance in Saturday's loss to Our Lady of the Lake University (4-2) as Texas A&M University-Kingsville (5-4) went 1-of-17 from three-point range to fall to the Saints, 63-47, at the Gil E. Steinke Physical Education Center-Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.
Both teams struggled shooting the ball Saturday and the Javelina bench outscored the Saints', 22-7, but OLLU was able to score 19 points off the 22 Texas A&M-Kingsville turnovers.
Joslyn Smith finished with 10 rebounds – five offensive – off the bench and the Hogs pulled down 50 rebounds as a team.
Ashley Viera and
TaSheena Moore dished out four assists apiece and
Jamesha Wade led TAMUK with eight points.
Taylor Hamilton dominated for the Saints, scoring 33 points on 9-of-18 shooting and LaQeisha Brown recorded a double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds and added three steals. Our Lady of the Lake shot 30.3 percent from the floor.
A quick start to the game, OLLU was able to take a 16-8 lead after one period and 34-16 lead into the second half. The Javelina offense seemed to put its early game woes behind them in the latter stages of the ballgame, but the comeback could not be completed. The busy Hogs played three games this week, all versus South Central Regional opponents.
The Javelinas take a week off before resuming action in Kingsville against Texas A&M International University on Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. TAMUK defeated the Dustdevils in both matchups thus far this season.
