ODESSA, Texas (Women's Basketball) – In the latter of a home-and-home versus the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, Texas A&M University-Kingsville nearly overcame a five-point deficit in the final 48 seconds and attempted two game-tying three-pointers in the final 25 seconds. The Falcons (3-4) were able to survive and earn a 66-65 victory over the Javelinas (5-2) on Monday evening at the Falcon Dome to split the regular season series.
A jumper by
Kyra Bauer with 35 seconds remaining made it a 66-63 ballgame in favor of UTPB and
Jamesha Wade picked up a crucial steal with 28 ticks left to give the Javelinas an opportunity to tie the game. Much like Friday's contest, second and third chances factored into the game as Texas A&M-Kingsville nearly tied the game twice before settling for a layup by
TaSheena Moore with :05 left. After fouling, Texas-Permian Basin was able to run out the remaining three seconds to improve to 3-4.
Entering Monday, the Javelinas were ranked No. 10 in the South Central Region D2SIDA poll.
Kaylin Roher finished with 18 points and went 5-of-6 from three-point range. The junior added five rebounds, two assists and two steals and
Kyra Bauer recorded 13 points, five rebounds and a steal. Moore was 5-of-9 from the floor with 13 points, seven rebounds, five offensive, three assists and two steals.
The Hogs got off to a quick start, leading 26-18 after one behind Roher's 10 points, nine from long distance. TAMUK went 9-of-14 in the first period and 4-of-5 from behind-the-arc. However, UTPB outscored Kingsville, 20-11, in the second to take a 38-37 lead into the locker room. Roher scored 10 points in the first half, nine coming from three-point range, and added a steal. Bauer added five points and four rebounds and Moore had six points, two rebounds and two assists.
Through three, the Falcons held a slight three-point margin, 51-48, and the comeback by the Javelinas fell just short.
