Third career double-digit scoring game for Bauer

KINGSVILLE, Texas – Senior Kyra Bauer scored a team-high 11 points as the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team fell 75-56 to St. Mary's Saturday afternoon during the team's home opener in the Gil H. Steinke Physical Education Center-Kingsville Hampton Inn Court. She finished 3-of-6 from the field and 4-of-5 at the free throw line.

The Javellinas fell to 3-1 on the season while the Rattlers are now 2-1.

Also reaching double-digits in points was Kaylin Roher with 10. Kaylee Kana and Jamesha Wade added nine and eight points, respectively. Wade led the squad in assists (4) and blocks (2) and retrieved five rebounds.

Joslyn Smith grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds, half coming on the offensive glass.

Lily Hospers drove the lane for an easy layup and the first points of the game. Roher made a jumper and Reneisha Alfred converted a free throw to put TAMUK up 5-2. STMU responded with a 9-0 run to take a six-point lead.

Ashley Viera nailed a jumper from just inside the arc and Bauer followed with a trey to cut the Hogs' deficit to two late in the period. The Rattlers ended the first 10 minutes with a 19-14 advantage after making a three-pointer with 13 seconds remaining.

STMU opened the second quarter on a 14-2 run with TAMUK's only points coming on a layup from Bauer. Roher tallied the final points of the half on a layup with a little over 10 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to 41-26.

The Rattlers maintained a double-digit lead for the entire second half. The closest TAMUK got was 14 after back-to-back treys from TaSheena Moore and Roher with 2:25 left in the game.

Next for the Hogs is 5:30 p.m. game on Tuesday at St. Edward's.
