Season-High Seven Threes for @TAMUKWBB Not Enough at Cameron

Alexis Copeland and Ashley Viera both made three shots from downtown

KINGSVILLE, Texas – A season-high seven three-pointers was made by the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team (0-16, 0-6 LSC) but they fell 66-58 to Cameron (8-7, 5-1 LSCC) Wednesday night in Aggie Gym. The Javelinas also shot a season best 41.2 percent from long range.

Two treys by Alexis Copeland gave the Blue and Gold an early 6-3 lead 90 seconds into the contest. The Aggies responded with four straight points but TAMUK answered back with six consecutive points to go ahead by five.

A 10-3 spurt from CU put them back on top with the lone points for the Javelinas coming on a Micah Weaver jumper and free throw courtesy of Lauren Jay.

Kyra Bauer nailed a jumper and Ashley Viera hit a long-range shot to put the Blue and Gold in the lead again. Two charity stripe shots by Ruby Robertson increased their lead to 22-19 with 5:16 left until halftime.

The Aggies closed out the first half by scoring 13 of the final 15 points.

Brandi Leal of CU opened the second 20-minute with a three-pointer to increase their lead to 35-24. They eventually stretched their lead to 19 a little over nine minutes remaining on the clock.

TAMUK stepped up defensively and held the Aggies to only four points the rest of the way. On the offensive end of the court, the Javelinas 15 points with Robertson totaling seven of them. The spurt was not enough as CU came away with the eight-point victory.

Viera surpassed her season-high in points for the second straight game with a team best 15 as she went 6-for-14 from the field and 3-of-7 on treys. Robertson added 13 points while both Copeland and Jay contributed 11 apiece.

Both Jay and Bauer grabbed a game-high eight rebounds with half of Bauer's total coming of the offensive end. Copeland and Weaver each dished out four assists.

The Blue and Gold return home to host Midwestern State Saturday at 4 p.m.
