KINGSVILLE, Texas – Coming off their most complete game of the season, the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team faces a stern test on Saturday at 1 pm. as it hosts fifth-ranked West Texas A&M in a game sponsored by Big House Restaurants.
The Javelinas enter the contest at 8-11 overall and 3-6 in the Lone Star Conference. West Texas is an impressive 18-1 on the season and 9-0 in the LSC.
Kingsville's coming off a 72-56 win over Eastern New Mexico on Wednesday. In the game, the Hoggies hit 49.1% from the floor which was a season-high in a LSC game. Kingsville also had 22 steals, which is the most by an LSC team this year and three off the school record. The Javelinas outscored Eastern 43-5 on points off turnovers.
Lindsey Mahone, who leads Kingsville with 12.9 points a game, leads the way 18 points, while
Lauren Jay had 14.
Ashley Viera added 12 and
Rosalie Cutri 10. Jay, Viera and Cutri each had four steals for the Hoggies. Mahone led the team with eight rebounds which are fourth in the conference.
West Texas has the top scoring offense in the LSC with 81.3 points a game, while giving up a league-low 58.1. The Lady Buffs are led individually by Devin Griffin, who averages 14.3 points a game, and Chontiquah White, who is averaging 13.2. Kasey Land is 14
th in scoring with 10.4 a contest. White is seventh in the LSC with 6.3 rebounds a game.
