Box Score WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball had three players score double figures including a double-double by
Lindsey Mahone but it wasn't enough to overcome Midwestern State in a 81-59 loss on Saturday at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
With the loss, the Javelinas dropped to 7-10 on the season and 2-5 in the Lone Star Conference. Meanwhile, the Mustangs even their LSC mark at 4-4 and improve to 12-7 overall.
Kingsville jumped out to a 16-10 lead nine minutes into the game following a jumper by
Lindsey Mahone. Mahone, who finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds, had four points early and
Sheana Jones added five. The double-double was Mahone's third of the season and second in LSC play.
However, Midwestern erupted for a 13-0 run over the next 2:08 to take a 23-16 lead and never trailed again. The Javelinas went 0-for-4 during the spurt and had a pair of turnovers.
Kingsville twice pulled to within four points on 3-point baskets by
Tonje Milde but would get no closer.
Midwestern would lead 42-33 at the break following a Lisa Hampton trey.
The Mustangs would opened the second half with a 12-6 run to build a 54-39 advantage on a Dianna Jones fast-break bucket just over 3:15 into the period.
The Javelinas pulled to within eight with a 10-3 run to make it 57-49 with 13:04 left. Jones had six points and a steal that led to a bucket by
Rosalie Cutri in the run.
Kingsville would be outscored 24-10 the remainder of the contest.
Mahone was joined in double figures by Jones who finished with 11 and
Ruby Robertson who had 11. The Javelinas struggled offensively hitting 29.1% of their shots, but did swipe 10 steals and matched the Mustangs with 36 rebounds – 16 offensively.
MSU's Andrea Carter led the hosts with 21 points, while Hampton and Shatoia Gober had 12 apiece. Midwestern finished 51% from the floor.
The Javelinas continue their 3-game road trip on Saturday when they visit Angelo State at 2 p.m.
