Javelinas Fall To Seventh-Ranked West Texas

Box Score CANYON – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team found the going tough Saturday falling to a top-10 team for the second time in three games as they dropped an 82-47 decision to No.-7 West Texas A&M.

The loss was the third in a row for the Javelinas who dropped to 6-9 on the season and 1-4 in the Lone Star Conference. West Texas, which held the Javelinas to a season-low 47 points, improved to 14-1 on the season and is 5-0 in the league.

The game was tight early as Sheana Jones' 3-point basket five minutes into the game made it a 10-9 contest in favor of the Buffs.

WT responded with 32-8 run to build a 25-point lead and take control of the game.

Kingsville would get no closer than 16 points on two occasions – first on a layup by Ashley Viera and last on a Lauren Jay basket.

Jay led the Javelinas in scoring as she matched her season high with 14 points. She just missed a double-double as she snared eight rebounds to lead the team as well. Jones added nine points, while leading scorer Lindsey Mahone was limited to just seven points as Kingsville hit just 29.1% from the floor. The Hoggies did swipe 15 steals as Mahone and Jones each had four steals.

West Texas had four players in double digits. Devin Griffin led the way with 16 points and a game-high five steals. Lacee Logan added 12 while, Chontiquah White and Danielle Logan had 10 apiece.

The Javelinas return home to Kingsville Hampton Inn Court on Wednesday at 6 p.m. when they host the IBC Bank Pack the House Night and Student Spirit Night. The Kingsville men follow at 8 p.m.
