ABILENE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s basketball team placed three players in double digits but it wasn’t enough to overcome Abilene Christian in the season finale as the Javelinas fell 82-53.
The Javelinas had 18 points from Kaitlyn Lowen in her final game with Kingsville, while Ashley Viera added 12. Lowen’s classmate Breanna Gonzalez added 10.
With the loss, Kingsville ends the regular season at 5-21 and 3-17 in the Lone Star Conference. ACU (21-5, 16-4) clinched a share of the regular-season title with Midwestern State and will be the second seed in next week’s LSC tournament in Allen.
The Javelinas led earlier at 9-7 after an Ashley Viera 3-point basket at the 16:30 mark.
The Wildcats answered with a 26-7 run to take a 33-16 lead with 6:20 left in the half on a 3-point basket by Renata Marquez.
Kingsville would pull no closer than 35-25 with 3:12 remaining in the opening half after an Ashley Benavides bucket.
Kelsey Smith led the Wildcats with 22 points, while Marquez had 12 points and 14 rebounds. Mackenzie Lankford and Sadie Dickinson as 12 and 10 points, respectively.
