Tarleton Holds Javelinas to 78-64

KINGSVILLE, Texas – Three Javelinas scored double figures against Tarleton State in the second-to-last home game of the season, but that wasn’t enough as the Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s basketball team fell to the TexAnns, 78-64 during the annual Pink Zone game.

Kingsville falls to 5-16 overall, 3-12 in the Lone Star Conference. Tarleton improves to 16-5, 12-3 in the conference.

Tarleton took an early lead that the Javelinas could not fully recover. The TexAnns jumped out to a 19-point lead, 29-10 in the first half. Kingsville responded with a 17-2 run pulling to within four twice in the final 2:37 of the opening half but could get no closer.

With the score 37-30 to start the second half, Tarleton took control with a 6-2 run to extend its lead to double digits. The Javelinas could get no closer than seven ,48-41, the remainder of the game.

Senior Breanna Gonzalez led the team in scoring with 13 points. The last time Gonzalez scored double digits was at the beginning of January during the A&M-Commerce game.

Senior Kaitlyn Lowen and junior Sheana Jones followed with 11 points each. Gonzalez and Lowen also had four steals apiece as the team finished with 14 steals.

Four players from Tarleton had double-figure games. Kiara Wright earned her 15th double-double with 16 points and 18 rebounds for the night. Peyton Adamson led the TexAnns with 30 points, hitting eight treys – six in the first half. Tarleton has had only 12 players score 30 points in a game, two of which have been this season. Adamson joins Wright on the list.

The Javelinas hit the road to Commerce for a match up against A&M-Commerce Saturday at 2 p.m.
