Javelina Women Pick Up Third Win

Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball just missed its first 100-point performance since November of 2009 rolling past Our Lady of the Lake 98-80 on Friday night on Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.

The Javelinas (3-2) took control with a dominant performance in the first half and led 50-33 at the break. Kingsville hit 51.2% percent from the floor while limiting the Saints to 33.3% from the floor in the first 20 minutes. The Javelinas finished 56.5% from the floor and had six players in double digits.

Kingsville's bench played a key role in the contest finishing with 65 points to 23 for OLLU as no Hoggie starter played more than 17 minutes.

Four players posted career bests. Rita Banaszczak had a team-high 19 points, while Michelle Wagner added 16 with three 3-point baskets. Lauren Jay and Micah Weaver also had personal bests with 12 and 10 points respectively.

Two starters reached double figures. Lindsey Mahone had 11 points in 14 minutes, while Rosalie Cutri had 10 points in just 17 minutes of action. She had six steals in that time which was the most since Kayla Naylor had six in November 2009.

Alexis Copeland and Jay led Kingsville with five rebounds as the Javelinas won the rebounding war 43-39. Copeland had a career-best four assists and three others had three as the Hoggies had 23.

Rebecca Kolawole had game-high 20 points to lead the Saints, while Nelly Flores had 17 points and nine rebounds. Destiny Melton added 14 points and nine boards.

The Javelinas will play Southern Arkansas on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the SPEC.
