The Javelinas (3-17, 1-7) were down to eight players for the game after injuries and illness beset the team. Top scorer Chelsea Solis (San Antonio/Wagner HS) and top rebounder Vickie Gonzalez (Hidalgo/Hidalgo HS) both missed the game.

Despite the losses, the Javelinas opened the game with a 15-6 spurt through the first 4:26 of the game. Shonta Dobbins (North Little Rock, AR/North Little Rock West HS) and Brandy Garcia (Edinburg/Edinburg North HS) each hit three-pointers during the run.

The Javelinas still led by seven points with 7:42 left in the first half after a layup by Haley Capestany (San Antonio/Southside HS). The Lady Buffs (13-8, 6-2) got things going after that by getting the ball inside to Jamie Simmons who scored nine points over the final minutes of the first half and gave WT a 33-30 lead heading into the half.

In the second half, Simmons scored the first six points of the period to give the Buffs the boast they needed to get the win. WT held the Javelinas to 20 percent shooting from the field in the second half and outrebounded the Hoggies, 57-34.
