Javs Win, Miss Out on Playoffs

WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s basketball team took care of business on Saturday night defeating Lone Star Conference South Division rival Midwestern State 71-50 on the road.  Unfortunately, Tarleton State spoiled the party by defeating Angelo State to earn the fourth and final LSC South Tournament spot. (Box score)

The Javelinas (16-11, 6-6) used an 11-1 run late in the first half to take a commanding 36-20 halftime lead.  In the second half, they led by as many as 27 points and never led by fewer 13 points en route to the easy victory.

The Javelinas were led senior LaKeisha Jones (Winnsboro, LA/Crowville HS) who had 14 points and seven rebounds in her final game in a Hoggie uniform.  Junior Ursula Hill (Cypress/Cy-Fair HS) came off the bench to drain four three-pointers en route to 14 points while dishing out four assists.  Angela Franklin (Vacaville, CA/Vanden HS) led the team with eight rebounds.

The Javelinas shot 41.7 percent from the field, made 12-of-27 three-pointers and were 9-of-14 from the foul line.  They grabbed 10 more rebounds than the Mustangs and forced 22 turnovers.

The Mustangs (8-18, 3-9) shot 38.3 percent from the field, made 6-of-19 three-pointers and were 8-of-22 from the foul line.  Rosy Ofoegbu led the team with 11 points while Regiane Araujo grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Javelinas finished the season with their best record since the 2000-01 season when they went 27-7 and advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.  Jones was the only senior on this year’s squad and had a fantastic season leading the team in scoring, rebounding, blocks and field goal percentage.
