Soza's 18 Points Not Enough To Hold Off #17 West Texas A&M

Canyon -- Felicia Soza (Beeville) scored 18 points to lead three players in double figures, but it wasn't enough as the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas fell to #17 West Texas A&M 81-64.  Click here for stats.

Junior center LaKeisha Jones had 14 points and six rebounds while Ali Scott added 10, but 23 Javelina turnovers were the team's downfall on Wednesday night.

The loss dropped the Javelinas to 6-18 overall and 2-9 in LSC South Division play while West Texas A&M improved to 20-4 and 10-1 in conference play.

A&M-Kingsville shot 48 percent from the floor and made 5 of 10 3-point shots, but West Texas A&M made 53 percent of its shots, including nine 3-pointers and scored 24 points off of Javelina turnovers.

The Javelinas trailed 42-35 at the half and were still within 10 when Jones scored on a layup with 13:54 left in the game to make the score 52-42.

But the Javelina offense went cold, scoring just four points over the next five minutes as West Texas A&M increased its lead to 15, 61-46.

Another layup by Jones with 7:52 remaining got the lead back down to 11, 61-50, but that's as close as the Javelinas would get.

The Javelinas return home to host Texas Woman's University Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
