Garza was named the LSC Special Teams Player of the Week after he set a new program record in the 29-22 win over UT Permian Basin on the road last Saturday. He recorded 17 kicking points as he was perfect on all five field goal attempts and two point-after tries, snapping the 36-year-old record of 16 held by Walter Rule set back during the 1985 season.
Garza booted successful kicks from 27, 32 twice, 40 and 47 in the win over the Falcons, pushing his yearly total to 12 field goals in 14 attempts while setting his new season-long of 47 yards in the fourth. The five field goals also tied Rule's record set on November 2 in the 1985 campaign that resulted in a 22-19 win over A&M-Commerce, then known as East Texas State.
Garza's efforts earned the first special teams citation from the league office since the 2019 season for any Javelina as Josh Wilson earned the distinction on October 14 of that year, and became the first Javelina kicker to receive the honor since Julio De La Garza on November 5, 2018
