Bruni, Texas native earned 11 gold medals for the Badgers



KINGSVILLE, Texas (Tennis) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville's head tennis coach Autumn Williams announced the signing of Sam Peña to a national letter of intent on Wednesday morning.
 
Peña becomes the first recruit to commit to the Javelinas under Williams, who are in the midst of the best season in school history (12 wins).
 
The Bruni, Texas native earned five letters for Bruni High School, going 95-16 overall en route to medaling 20 times throughout her high school career for the Badgers. Peña won the 2015 District 32AA title and won a silver medal at the 2014 Texas State Championships.
 
"I am glad to have Sam join Javelina Nation," said Williams. "She brings athleticism and competitiveness to the team. She will be a great addition for us and we look forward to welcoming her to the program."

Club: Played club for the USTA Junior Rebels in Laredo, Texas (14U advanced team)… earned 14U Advanced Area championship.
 
Personal: Full name is Samantha Peña… daughter of Gabriel and Regina Pena… has an older brother, Christopher… cousin Marc Wachs plays professional soccer for the FSC Mainz 05 II in the German Bundesliga… aspires to work for a professional sports organization and run a tennis academy… chose TAMUK because it was the best fit to attain her personal goals, the great tennis program and sports business curriculum… admires her brother because of his ethics and hard work… intends to major in sports business and marketing.
