Football Predicted to Finish Sixth in Loaded LSC

Season begins at UIW on Sept. 3 at 6 p.m.



ODESSA, Texas (Football) –
Texas A&M University-Kingsville was tabbed to finish sixth at the 2016 Lone Star Conference Football Media Day Thursday. The Javelinas received 141 votes.
 
The preseason poll was voted on by LSC head coaches, sports information directors and various media representatives throughout the area.
 
Texas A&M University-Commerce was the preseason favorite, picking up 19 first-place votes and 269 total points, followed by Midwestern State University, who collected eight first-place nods and 254 total. Angelo State University (211), West Texas A&M University (182) and Eastern New Mexico University (181) appeared 3-4-5, respectively, with the Javelinas sitting at No. 6. Tarleton State University received 121 points and conference newcomers Western New Mexico University and Oklahoma Panhandle State University tied at No. 8 with 66 points apiece. First year program University of Texas of the Permian Basin earned the final first-place vote and rounded out the poll at No. 10 with 49 points.
 
Lions running back Richard Cooper and Buffaloes defensive back Hunter Streuling were named LSC Football Preseason Players of the Year.
 
Also honored Thursday were Broadcaster of the Year Jeremy Bryant (Angelo State) and Sportswriter of the Year Kale Steed (Amarillo Times).
 
The Javelinas begin the 2016 slate at the University of the Incarnate Word September 3 at 6 p.m., followed by back-to-back home games versus Canadian program Simon Fraser (September 10 at 7 p.m.) and the LSC opener versus Midwestern State University (September 17 at 7 p.m.).
 
Season tickets are still available and fans have the opportunity of purchasing six home games for the price of five until Aug. 5. Those that renew or purchase season tickets prior to that date also receive an exclusive stadium seat cushion.
 
Season ticket prices largely remain unchanged with packages as low as $40 for six home games.
 
General admission season tickets purchased before Aug. 5 are just $40 with box seating set at only $100. Seating in sections A and F are $50 and B and E are $60. Ticket prices for seats in sections C and D are $75.
 
Javelina Gold Passes can also be purchased and are just $75. The gold pass allows the holder and one guest to enter all home regular season volleyball, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball and track and field events.
