Clarence Jarvis was a football letterman in 1935, 1936 and 1937 and also was a member of the Javelina basketball team.  He was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 2003.
          Jarvis was an All-Alamo Conference fullback for the Javelinas in 1937 and served as a team captain the same season.
          He played for fellow inductee McCallum in his seasons with the Javelinas.  The squad posted a 13-12-1 record during the period.  Baylor, Texas, Rice and Southern Methodist were on the Javelina schedule during his three years on the team.
          He also played basketball for the Javelinas and was on the school’s all-star baseball squad.  He was a member of the “T” Association.
          Jarvis started his coaching career at Taft High School in 1950 after graduating from Texas A&I in 1938. He then went to Mission High School where one of his players was former Dallas Cowboy coach Tom Landry.
          The next year he moved to Port Lavaca and in 1942 he joined the U.S. Navy and served for three years. 
          Jarvis, from Austin, served as a coach at El Paso High School for 40 years.  He coached the 1947 Texas state championship basketball team and he has been inducted into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame. 
         The gymnasium at El Paso High School is named for him.
         His El Paso teams won district or regional championships in 1953, 1946, 1965, 1972, 1973 and 1982.
          He received the Conquistador Award from the City of El Paso, the Hispanic and Business Alliance for Education Award and the El Paso High School Alumnae Association Award. 
Jarvis retired from coaching in 1985.
          After his death four years ago, his body lied in state in the El Paso High School gym.
Jarvis has a widow, Fae, of El Paso and a son, Damon R. Jarvis, also of El Paso.
